Position Title: HR Garbage Truck Driver

Position Type: Full Time hours

Location: Blacktown City Council

Payrate: $1,550 per week

The Recycling HR Truck Driver is responsible for safely operating a Heavy Rigid (HR) truck for the collection, transportation, and delivery of recyclable materials to designated recycling facilities. This role ensures the efficient and safe management of recycling services, contributing to environmental sustainability efforts and maintaining high levels of customer service. The driver is expected to perform pre- and post-trip inspections, operate recycling-specific equipment, and adhere to road safety and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Recycling Collection: Safely drive and operate a heavy rigid (HR) truck to collect recyclable materials from residential, commercial, and industrial locations.
  • Material Handling: Ensure the proper loading and unloading of recyclables, segregating materials as required (e.g., paper, plastics, metals, glass).
  • Route Management: Follow assigned routes for recycling collection, ensuring timely and efficient service while maintaining compliance with local traffic laws and safety regulations.
  • Customer Interaction: Provide excellent customer service, addressing any inquiries or concerns related to recycling collection and offering guidance on recyclable materials.
  • Pre-Trip and Post-Trip Inspections: Conduct daily vehicle inspections, checking safety features, tire pressure, fluid levels, and mechanical functions. Report any issues to the maintenance team promptly.
  • Compliance with Regulations: Adhere to environmental regulations and company policies regarding the proper handling and transportation of recyclable materials. Ensure the truck is properly maintained in compliance with safety and environmental standards.
  • Maintenance of Truck: Keep the truck clean, organized, and in good working condition. Clean up any recyclable materials spilled during the loading/unloading process.
  • Documentation: Maintain and submit accurate logs, including service reports, recycling collection records, and vehicle maintenance records.
  • Safety Protocols: Follow all safety procedures to ensure safe driving, loading, and unloading of recyclables. Report any safety hazards or accidents immediately.
  • Team Collaboration: Work with the recycling team, supervisors, and fellow drivers to optimize waste collection operations, improve efficiency, and resolve issues.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Required:
    • Valid Heavy Rigid (HR) Truck Driver’s License.
    • Experience in driving heavy rigid trucks, with a preference for those experienced in waste management or recycling.
    • Knowledge of road safety regulations and recycling best practices.
    • Ability to handle manual labor, including loading and unloading recyclable materials.
    • Strong communication skills and a professional demeanor when interacting with customers.
    • Physically fit and able to work in various weather conditions.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Desirable:
    • Prior experience in the recycling or waste management industry.
    • Forklift operation certification or other relevant qualifications.
    • Understanding of local recycling regulations and sustainability practices.
    • First Aid or other emergency response training.
